Depleted Uranium
Depleted Uranium is used in all US shells because of its high explosive impact. Unfortunately, in addition to killing the enemy, it permanently poisons the soldiers and innocent civilians with radiation leading to cancer and birth defects. When Depleted Uranium explodes, it oxidizes and vaporizes and tiny radioactive particles are easily breathed in where they lodge in the body and form cancer. Inhaling Depleted Uranium also causes a break in the DNA of the person so that their children will likely have birth defects.
Depleted Uranium is used at about 26 US gunnery ranges in places like Yuma, AZ and Big Island, Hawaii. Depleted Uranium has been stored in Kentucky causing health problems to the people living there due to leakage from rusty Depleted Uranium storage canisters.
